Measure it open
Mark the full open rectangle on the floor. Include space for long garments and comfortable movement around it. Keep access routes clear and follow the manufacturer placement guidance.
Match the laundry
Count how many long items and small items you dry in a normal load. Closely packed clothes can be awkward to hang; advertised drying length does not describe every real-life load.
Check storage and ventilation
Measure the folded size against the space where it will live. For indoor drying, follow ventilation guidance for your home and avoid allowing moisture to accumulate. An airer is not a substitute for addressing persistent damp.
